An long-lived medium-sized tree with needle like branchlets, dark furrowed trunk and a wiry appearance. Distinguished from other sheokes by branchlets held upright rather than drooping. Trees are either female or male: females have decorative cones and males have tiny flowers comprised of orange stamens with no petals. Known for its hard and beautifully textured timber.<\/p>\n

Sighing in the wind, this tree creates a unique sense of place. This is an important habitat plant, particularly for seed eating birds. Yellow-tail Black Cockatoos crack open the cones to feast on seeds within. Bulokes naturally occurred on fertile plains, which have been largely cleared for farming.<\/p>\n
