Weeping Grass spreads by underground stems (rhizomes), seeds readily and forms a fine turf if mown regularly.
Makes a beautiful, fine native lawn in shady site in soils with some fertility. You can mow it short or you can leave it (never mow) to create a low sward to 25 cm tall. The weeping seed heads are a beautiful feature during the warm months. Although Weeping Grass looks its best with some watering during extended dry periods, it is highly drought tolerant once established and will bounce back when the rains return. Seed is a prized food by granivorous birds such as Red-browed Finches. The local variety of Weeping Grass is Microlaena stipoides var. stipoides.
