This dense and fine-foliaged shrublet grows into a soft mound or climbs loosely into the lower branches of neighbouring shrubs and trees. The tiny ‘berries’ are sweet and tasty and can be eaten by the handful.
A useful ground cover for dryish parts of the garden and an important food source for fruit-eating birds, ants and lizards. Host-plant to Chequered Blue Butterflies (larvae feed on leaves). Will grow to 1 m tall if it has something to climb, otherwise grows to 0.3 m tall. A good coloniser plant, self-seeds readily, but is easily maintained. A low flammability plant, if old growth is pruned back in winter.
