Hoary Sunray

A beautiful low-growing daisy, with soft grey foliage and showy, yellow flowers. Elongated stems hold the ‘everlasting’ papery-flowers above a mound of leaves. Starts flowering from September and may continue to flower through Summer.

A beautiful addition to any cottage garden, perennial border, pollinator or woodland-style garden. This plant requires little maintenance but is short-lived in cultivation (1-3 years). Plants die back to rootstock after flowering but may return in Spring. Summer watering extends the flowering season but may reduce the life of the plant. Prefers full sun and tolerates dry sites once established. Tolerates light frost and sensitive to waterlogging.

Like other daisy species, the Hoary Sunray is a ‘generalist flower’ that can be pollinated by a wide range of insect pollinators, due to its wide and shallow surface that insects can walk on and readily access floral resources. The Hoary Sunray provides both a pollen and nectar reward and is visited by native bees, hoverflies, native wasps, butterflies and beetles.
