Gold-dust Wattle

A graceful, fine-textured shrub. Spectacular in spring when stems are dusted with flowers. Decorated with coiled pods through summer.

Gold-dust Wattle is a very variable species. The form local to Mount Alexander Shire tolerates shallow soils and tends to have a suckering and low-growing form, growing in dense, low patches in our local bushland.

Taller, non-local forms of this species are sold by some nurseries and may be desired by the urban gardener for their height and spreading form. However, if your garden is close to local bushland, make an effort to purchase stock from nurseries who grow from locally collected seed. This will avoid crossing non-local garden plants with local plants growing in the bush, potentially giving give rise to a new generation of plants with reduced fitness.

Plants can be rejuvenated through hard pruning. An important habitat plant for birds and insects.
